Dr. Poramate Pitak-Arnnop is the consultant oral-maxillofacial/head and neck surgeon in the Department of Trauma, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery at Ortenau Medical Centre – Academic Teaching Hospital of Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, Germany. She received her DDS (Hons) from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and an MD from Marburg University, Germany. Dr. Pitak-Arnnop completed a Graduated Diploma in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Mahidol University, Thailand, followed by a residency in Maxillofacial/Facial Plastic Surgery at Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital, University Paris 6 (Pierre et Marie Curie), France. After earning MSc degrees in research methodology and in research in medical ethics along with a Doctorate of Medical Science (DSc) in medical ethics and legal medicine Summa cum Laude at University Paris 5 (René Descartes), France, she obtained a PhD in Dentistry Magna cum Laude at Leipzig University, Germany. Since 2018, she has been recognised as a Diplomate of the German Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the German Medical Council, and a Fellow of the European Board of Oro-Maxillofacial/Head and Neck Surgery from the European Association for Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery and the European Union of Medical Specialists.
Dr. Pitak-Arnnop mainly performs reconstructive surgery for patients with maxillofacial trauma, infections, tumours/cancers and deformities, specialising in local, regional and microvascular free flap reconstruction. She is a regional well-recognised expert in endoscopic maxillofacial procedures, particularly in orbital and skull base trauma, salivary gland diseases and soft tissue tumours of the head and neck.
In addition to patient care, her research efforts are directed at developing minimally invasive techniques and improving outcomes in reconstructive surgery for patients with trauma, tumours/cancers and deformities of the head and neck. Her research interests also include surgical oncology, oral mucosal diseases and orofacial pain/headache. Moreover, she is actively engaged in evidence-based medicine, surgical ethics and medical/dental education. Dr. Pitak-Arnnop has given numerous lectures nationally and internationally on a broad range of topics related to plastic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck and has published more than 100 scientific journal articles. She was an invited guest editor of two international journals and sits the editorial board for five international journals. Seventeen international surgical/medical journals invite her to be a peer reviewer as well.
